This tall grass has broad, bluish blades and grows into a large, handsome clump. 'Canyon Prince' is a popular selection that you can try in your Southern California garden. (Lower left) Boxwood orbs are so much a part of a formal border. But, used here in small groups softened with perennials against a wall, they're so at ease. (Upper right) Clean lines and simple plantings set on an axis. This illustrates how a formal garden can work in a modern setting even when filled with billowing grasses.

Deergrass is one of the easiest bunchgrasses to grow in California and can reach its mature height of around 5 feet in just one or two years. Manzanita is a large group of evergreen shrubs, from groundcover to tree height, and varying widths. Most have architectural structures and mahogany- to ebony-color bark. This large, evergreen shrub has deep green leathery leaves and red berries in winter.

Coulter’s Matilija poppy is native to dry chaparral and coastal sage scrub plant communities in Southern California, and it can sometimes grow in recently burned areas. The large, showy white flowers with bright yellow centers bloom in spring and summer, and the plant can spread aggressively if left unchecked. Especially in Northern California where they grow best, you can grow a western redbud as a large shrub or small tree depending on how you prune and train it. Either way, the plant will have light green leaves early in the growing season that turn dark green as they age and sprout clusters of bright pink or magenta flowers in the spring. The flannel bush has fuzzy leaves that resemble flannel (that’s where its common name comes from) and large, bright yellow flowers that bloom in spring. The shrub grows quickly and can grow very tall under the right conditions, so it works great as a privacy hedge, but don’t plant it near a high-traffic area, as the leaves can irritate skin.

Plus, free-flowing forms with plantings that are more relaxed, more ambitious in their color combinations. They typically feature lots of heights and textures mingled together. It seems like the majority of home gardens feature this kind of border. It’s easy to see why–they’re just so much fun to look at and to create. The Ceanothus genus, commonly known as California lilac, wild lilac, mountain lilac, or buck brush, includes more than 60 shrubs in the buckthorn family. California gooseberry, aka hillside gooseberry, is just one of the state’s many native gooseberry/currant plants. Well known and loved evergreen chaparral native Cleveland sage has extremely aromatic, resinous leaves and flower spires that feature whorls of purple to lavender colored blooms in spring and summer. You’ll see these shrubs all over California, from the coast into the mountains.

There are branching and non-branching varieties, most of which have green or silvery-white leaves and sprout flowers in late winter or early spring. Chalk liveforever's ghostly blue-white succulent rosettes create long flower spikes that feature silver and red flowers in late spring and summer. This large evergreen shrub is native to coastal sage scrub and chaparral.

With extended droughts, wildfires, and extreme heat, choosing landscape plants in California can be a challenge. When you use native California plants, you can be sure they’ll survive your local climate and even help you save water.

Lemonade berry has beautiful deep green leathery leaves and rose pink spring flowers. This plant is excellent for screening and habitats, and also stabilizes slopes. As its common name suggests, giant wildrye is a tall species of wild rye grass that grows in clumps, which can function the same as shrubs in a landscape. “Canyon prince” is a popular cultivar for home planting, but it’s a nursery-bred variety that you won’t find in the wild. The vibrant orange California poppy, California’s state flower, is drought-tolerant, easy to grow, and often reseeds itself. Poppies bloom in spring, and in cooler parts of the state, the flowers can last all the way through the summer.

Formerly known by the scientific name Rhamnus californica, this common California shrub has dark green leaves and small cream, white, or greenish flowers that sprout in spring and summer. The plant is fire-resistant, and birds love its fruit, so coffeeberry makes a great addition to any landscape. Yarrow has many common names, including nosebleed plant, old man’s pepper, devil’s nettle, and thousand-leaf.

These California native flowers are often included in butterfly gardens due to their fragrant clusters of tiny white flowers that bloom during spring and summer. California's state flower California poppy is a perennial grown as an annual. It features tufts of feathery green leaves topped in brilliant orange blooms starting in early spring. Avoid overhead irrigation to keep leaves dry and mildew at bay. The Catalina currant, aka island gooseberry, aka evergreen currant, is another of California’s native currant plants.

It has shiny dark green leaves that produce a pleasantly citrus-scented sap, and it grows small red fruits in late spring that attract birds, including hummingbirds. Bush monkey flower has dark green sticky leaves and blooms in winter, spring, and summer with flowers that are usually light orange but can range from white to red. California is home to several cultivars of this shrub of different sizes and colors. Its tiny, round, bright pink flowers bloom in upright clusters that hummingbirds love to snack on. Because the coastal prickly pear is a succulent, it doesn’t need a lot of water and is perfect for water-wise gardens — just be careful of the sharp spines.

Unlike their more rambunctious cousin, the cottage or informal border, these types of gardens don't just happen. They begin with a plan, typically laid out on graph paper, with plenty of measuring during installation. Old white wooden background with green leaves, top view, copy space. When the incorrect application of chemicals is combined with excessive irrigation, waterways get polluted, soil conditions deteriorate, and plants become weakened. Weak plants then look like they need more food or water, and the vicious cycle gets worse — lawns grow quick and thick, requiring more mowing, which adds exhaust to the air. These tough, beautiful plants can take hot, dry conditions with ease.

Get easy-to-understand, actionable yard tips that will give you the greenest grass on the block. The front yard gets scorched by the sun year-round, while the back yard is shady and is noticeably cooler by several degrees. This means plants that do well in the backyard will struggle to survive in the front.

They're among the best easy-care plants for gardeners in this region. Some garden borders are neither formal nor informal but a mash-up of all kinds of ideas. You might think of a formal border as a grand boxwood affair you see in articles about gardens in France. However, each of these are also examples of formal borders. A formal or classic garden border is laid out with complete regularity on formal lines. In accord with the methods of classic design, the plantings are in symmetrically arranged rows or geometrical figures.

The Lakers showed no quit in their dire circumstances in Game 4, pounding the ball inside for 44 points in the paint during the first half alone. "These are the types of games you have to win in the playoffs," Oilers defenseman Corey Perry said. "It's not going to be 6-5 or 7-4 every night. You're going to have to dig deep and play defense and trying to win out. We found a way tonight." "The disappointing thing is no goalie is going to win when we can't score for him. He did his job." The Oilers converted on their lone power-play opportunity when Evan Bouchard scored his first goal of the series midway through the second period. "The Kings definitely gave me a hard time out there. I was sweating a lot by the end of the third," Skinner said.

Whether it’s to decorate your entire home, complete the look, or to find an amazing gift for that special someone, High Street provides that opportunity with thousands of unique, eclectic and traditional items. Since Church Hill Antiques has the crowded, overstuffed feel of a thrift store, the unseasoned shopper may feel the prices are high for what’s on offer. Appearances can be deceiving, however, and in reality Church Hill is simply brimming with must-have treasures, ones which its British proprietor may bargain down in price if you ask nicely. Look for standard fare—antique seating, lighting, etc.—as well as more offbeat items like antique opium scales.

The company won federal authorization in 2020 to sell $1 billion in similar bonds. “I believe we’ll look back at today and say, ’This was the birth of an industry of high-speed rail,’” Brightline Holdings founder Wes Edens said Monday. The three sought throughout the evening to strike a balance between allowing parishioners to have their say and keeping the session moving, an effort that at times drew groans. The session had run nearly an hour over its scheduled time when Butler drew its formal part to a close. John Petrick, a longtime member of St. Mary of the Assumption in Govans, said he believes Seek the City has focused too much on demographic research and not enough on understanding parish ministries. The archdiocese first shared the proposal with city parishioners at Masses the weekend of April 13.

The main engine of the economy, spending by U.S. households, remained relatively solid. The Standard & Poor’s 500 fell 0.5% and sliced some of the gain off what had been a big winning week. It looked to be heading for a much worse loss in the morning, when it tumbled as much as 1.6%.

Michael Porter Jr. had 27 points and 11 rebounds for Denver, and Jamal Murray scored 22 points while going 0 for 4 on 3-point attempts. Aaron Gordon had just seven points for the Nuggets after putting up 29 in Game 3 during the highest-scoring playoff game of his career. After blowing a double-digit lead in each of the first three games of the series, Los Angeles again took a healthy lead early in the second half of Game 4, but never fell behind again despite the Nuggets' unsurprising late rally. D'Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves scored 21 points apiece for the seventh-seeded Lakers, who snapped their 11-game losing streak against the defending NBA champions with their first win over the Nuggets since December 2022. The Kings have dropped four straight playoff series since winning the Stanley Cup in 2014.

Reggie Jackson played nine minutes for Denver despite spraining his ankle in the second half of Game 3. Nuggets coach Michael Malone initially didn't think Jackson would be available for Game 4, but the 13-year veteran stunned the coaches with his quick recovery.

"Frustrated. Frustrated. Definitely got to capitalize on more, and we got some Grade-A chances as well," Kings forward Philip Danault said. "I mean, we got to play the same way, and we got to make it difficult for them. And our back's against the wall, so nothing to lose." Trevor Moore had a shot just go wide when the Kings had the man advantage in the third period.

Eight years ago, ownership of Plano’s High Street Antiques & Design was taken over by a business duo of antiques aficionados. Brightline West says electric-powered trains will cut the four-hour trip across the Mojave Desert to a little more than two hours. It projects 11 million one-way passengers per year, with fares that Edens said will be comparable to airline ticket costs. The trains will offer rest rooms, Wi-Fi, food and beverage sales and the option to check luggage. Brightline received Biden administration backing including a $3 billion grant from federal infrastructure funds and recent approval to sell another $2.5 billion in tax-exempt bonds.

Florida-based Brightline Holdings’ Miami-line debuted in 2018 and expanded service to Orlando International Airport last September with trains reaching speeds up to 125 mph (200 kph). It offers 16 round-trips per day with one-way tickets for the 235-mile (378-kilometer) distance costing about $80. Officials hope the train line will relieve congestion on I-15, where drivers often sit in miles of crawling traffic while returning home to Southern California from a Las Vegas weekend. An average of more than 44,000 automobiles per day crossed the California-Nevada state line on I-15 in 2023, according to Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority data.

The design process—the way things actually get done—is being transformed by new technologies and new approaches that can radically alter traditional design phases, workflows, time frames, roles, and outcomes. And also from each other, through crowdsourcing and open innovation. Design is sometimes thought to be about form, style, and how things look, but it’s also very much about function, or what something does. With new technologies making it possible to develop new functions, this is now more true than ever. It’s about the human response to the things we make for the world. Drawing on what design is actually like in the real world helps us talk about what it could, and should, become. No simple checklist could ever fully define what we mean by good design, but when we look at examples of it, we see that some essential elements tend to show up consistently. The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed early Tuesday, March 26 after a column was struck by a container ship that reportedly lost power, sending vehicles and people into the Patapsco River. According to the University of California, Davis, residential energy use is responsible for 20% of total greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S.

Drawing on signature motifs from the French house, the collection reveals essential home objects, timeless and evoking a powerful symbol of Hermès tropes. Now, merge the best elements from these individual sketches into a unified future-state flow. You can then share this consolidated journey with the whole workshop team. It will help you paint a picture of what the improved customer experience could look like.

There is a noticeable difference in the weight of a hoodie and the plushness of the fabric if it’s a hoodie. It will also feel less substantial if the t-shirts are fake, as they will be thinner in quality. We develop services as multi-channel brand experiences that empower people in meaningful ways and deliver value for both the user and company. From TVs to headphones, Sony is a brand with a long history of putting out reliable and impressive technology. Now, you can add hearing aids to the list thanks to the success of the Sony CRE-C10 devices. Don't get too caught up in the details, because we have good news.

Then, finish with the ability to create journey maps and lead workshops. Jabra's smallest model yet, this hearing aid offers the best sound quality out of every OTC hearing aid we researched. A common complaint for some hearing aids you can buy online is that amplified sound seems flat or distorted. That's not the case here -- the Enhance 300 model rivals most prescription hearing aids with decent sound boost, exceptional noise filtration, and a lack of any static hiss in the background.

As with any popular brand, counterfeiters have flooded the market with deceptively similar fake products. Fans of Fear of God Essentials loungewear sets should know how to spot fake items. You will learn how to distinguish authentic Fear of God Essentials from counterfeits. Jerry Lorenzo is the founder of another luxury brand, Fear of God, which is also among the brands behind the Essentials brand. Fear of God Essentials is a favorite of many celebrities, such as Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Kanye West, and Kendal Jenner, who are all big fans of this Essentials clothing brand.

It is also worth mentioning that the font on the tags is clean and clear. In contrast, counterfeit products often have poor-quality tags with blurry or smudged printing, making it challenging to identify the product. Thankfully, OTC hearing aids -- which are generally much more budget-friendly than their prescription ancestors -- have become a big deal over the last few years. Permits storing data to personalize content and ads across Google services based on user behavior, enhancing overall user experience. Everyone should understand journey mapping principles, existing research and input methods.

For instance, with a music streaming app like Spotify, a customer journey map would show how a user finds, chooses and uses the app. It would point out their main steps and where they might have problems. ESSENTIALS is not only far more affordable and accessible, but it is also far more accessible.

The overarching aim is to address the pressing needs of our world with attention and care, inspiring the next generation to embrace design as a tool for solving problems and contributing positively to tomorrow’s challenges. But it showed how design weeks can take on a more local focus, with exhibitors reporting a celebratory mood in spite of restrictions.
